Woman Pc stabbed at home is named

12 April 2012

A rookie policewoman thought to have been stabbed and killed by her boyfriend in her flat has been named by police as 28-year-old Melissa Ward.

The probationary Leicestershire Pc was found dead along with her partner, 33-year-old Benedict Marlow, at her home in The Sidings, in Oakham, Rutland, on Friday evening.

A post-mortem examination found both died of stab wounds.

Relatives called police to the second-floor flat on Friday evening, worried they had not seen or heard from Miss Ward for some time.

Officers made the grisly discovery after smashing down the door to the flat.

The popular rookie policewoman is believed to have been stabbed to death at home by Marlow, who then killed himself.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Miss Ward worked in the force's central area and was a probationary officer with 18 months' service.

Paying tribute to her, Chief Superintendent Chris Rollings said: "The officer concerned was hard-working, popular and will be sadly missed.

"Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues at this time. The loss of this officer will be felt by all."
