Warnings of further flooding remain in place across parts of the country after the UK was battered by torrential downpours.

Though some of the flood-hit areas received a respite on Saturday, with dry and sunny conditions across eastern England, there were still seven severe flood warnings in place for England.

These alerts suggested there was a "danger to life".

The Environment Agency warnings were in place for the River Don at Barnby Dun, Bently, Fishlake, Kirk Bramwith, Kirk Sandall, South Bramwith and Willow Bridge caravan site.

Another 54 warnings, urging people to take immediate action due to expected flooding, were also in place, as well as 74 alerts urging residents to be prepared.

Residents in the small village of Fishlake, South Yorkshire, were advised to evacuate.

Police were also continuing to monitor rising river levels in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

This comes after police named a woman who was swept to her death amid heavy rainfall in Derbyshire.

Former High Sheriff of Derbyshire Annie Hall died after being caught in floodwater in Darley Dale, near Matlock.

Her body was pulled from the River Derwent in the early hours of Friday, as parts of the Midlands and northern England were battered by a month's worth of rain in one day.

Meanwhile, rescue teams rushed to save animals endangered by the floods.

The RSPCA said officers had been busy dealing with numerous reports of animals, including cattle and horses, stranded in flooded fields.

The organisation also sent a team to rescue around 80 birds after flood waters upturned a barge leading to an oil spillage at a canal in Rotherham.

Inspector Jason Finch - the charity's national water rescue coordinator - said: "Nationally the water rescue team will remain on standby until Monday when we will reassess the situation as it appears that the water levels are now starting to go down.

"However, our officers on the ground have been dealing with many flood-related reports - such as helping move livestock to safety.

"Yesterday we also assisted moving 70 hedgehogs from a flooded sanctuary in Retford."

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn visited a flood-hit community in South Yorkshire and warned the UK could expect more extreme weather due to climate change.

"Obviously we need much better flood management and prevention schemes," he said.

"It also means properly funding our fire and rescue services and properly funding our Environment Agency to deal with this.

"The Environment Agency has lost a fifth of its staff, the fire services have lost more than a fifth of their staff. They're struggling to cope with this."

Mr Corbyn also visited a street in Conisbrough which is still cut off by floodwater.
