Brits are set for a miserable weekend with torrential rain and gale force winds expected to batter the country.
Up to 50mm of rain will fall in parts of the UK while wind speeds could reach 40mph in places, according to forecasters.
The wet weather will spread from the west across central areas over the course Saturday before pushing further north overnight.
The south east will see the driest conditions, although it will remain overcast.
Met Office meteorologist Martin Bowles told the Standard: “This afternoon, in London and the south east, it will be dry, rather cloudy with temperatures reaching 20C.
“However you don’t have to go much further north to get a change in the weather. In central parts there will be a lot of rain about, it will be a very wet and breezy afternoon.
“Further north and up into Scotland it will be drier, with the heaviest rain falling in north Wales where 50mm is forecast. However the rain will spread north, into Scotland and Northern Ireland, overnight.
“On Sunday it will be a bit drier but still miserable for parts of Wales and England, there will still be rain about and it will be breezy.”
Mr Bowles said there could be gales in parts of the country on Sunday as wind speeds push 40mph.
“Looking ahead into next week Monday will be a better day all round for most of the country for much of the day, however another front will bring rain north west Scotland," he added.
“On Tuesday a front will be bring more rain to central parts of the country.
“However it should be warm and in the south east, with temperatures reaching 23 or 24C."
