Uber is planning to branch out into food delivery in the UK by launching a food delivery service.

The UberEats app, already available in cities in the US, Canada and Australia, offers a food delivery service from local restaurants to a selected destination.

The app will join a crowded marketplace, with Deliveroo and Just Eat offering a similar service.

An Uber spokesman said: “UberEats has been hugely popular in every city around the world we have launched it in, so the fact we are exploring the UK market shouldn’t come as a surprise.

“We’re always looking at what other services we can bring to the market here.”

The company is already advertising for a restaurant partnerships manager based in London ‘to help grow one of Uber’s newest services’.

They are also recruiting an army of bicycle and scooter riders, offering a £100 signing bonus for anyone joining before the official launch.

Uber explained - how it works

The taxi hailing app has faced fierce opposition from London black cab drivers.

In February, 8,000 taxi drivers brought Central London to a standstill to protest about the rise of Uber.

Uber have not set a date for when they will launch UberEats in the UK.
