Thomas Markle has said "if the Queen can meet Donald Trump she can meet me" in a furious rant over the US President's visit to the UK.

Mr Markle told TMZ: “If the Queen is willing to meet our arrogant and insensitive president she has no excuse not to meet me, I’m nowhere near as bad.”

His comments come ahead of the President's visit to the UK next month.

Mr Trump is set to arrive in London on July 13 when huge protests are planned across the capital.

During the "best of British tour" he will meet the Queen at Windsor Castle.

The Duchess of Sussex’s father told the US news site that he had been put in the “penalty box” by the Royal family following a bombshell interview on Good Morning Britain earlier this month.

During the interview with Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid, he told them that Prince Harry had told him to “give Trump a chance” and that the royal was “open” to the idea of Brexit.

He also revealed no solid plans had been made for him to meet any members of the Royal family.

Meghan's father, 73, apologised for staging paparazzi photos and described his sadness at being unable to walk his daughter down the aisle.

He shared his feelings of both jealousy and gratitude at watching Prince Charles take his place.

Mr Markle also said that Meghan burst into tears when he told her he could not attend the wedding after undergoing heart surgery.

He said he was “honoured” that Prince Charles took his place and escorted Meghan part-way through St George’s Chapel, but added: “I was jealous, I wish it had been me but thank God [Prince Charles] was there.”

He added: “She was beautiful. I cried a little watching her. I was very proud and I couldn’t see a better moment in my life.

“The unfortunate thing now is that I’m a footnote in one of the greatest moments in history instead of a dad walking his daughter down the aisle.

“It was a very emotional moment. I regretted it because I really wanted to walk her down the aisle. But I’m thankful for how it all went.”

Mr Markle watched the ceremony on TV from the sofa of a B&B in California.

He added that he expects his daughter and Harry will start a family soon adding that Meghan has “wanted children for some time.”

At the time of the interview he said he hoped he has not upset his daughter and Prince Harry by attending in the interview.

“I hope I haven’t offended them, I don’t think I have. They know I love them and I hope the royals — the royal family — will understand my feelings as well,” he added.
