A new way to enjoy a tasty plate of fish and chips has emerged in the form of a pie.
Marks & Spencer have created the world’s first fish and chip pie which will be available on the high street for £3.49.
The shortcrust pastry pie contains a layer of minted pea puree, cod chunks in a béchamel based tartare sauce and topped off with a salty chip lid.
For those worrying about their waistlines the pie comes in at 581 calories, which is surprisingly half the calories of a portion of fish and chips from a takeaway.
A statement from the supermarket said: “Specially handcrafted in Yorkshire, each pie is lovingly created with top quality fillings made in small batches for a truly delicious taste of the seaside.”
Unusual pie choices appear to be a growing trend, with Greggs offering a chicken fajita lattice, Tesco have their own thai curry flavour while Little Jack Horner's Pie company have developed squirrel pies.
The fish and chip pie will be available to purchase from April 22 in the M&S Gastropub section.
