Scooch fly the flag at song contest

12 April 2012

Scooch will fly the flag for the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night but the bookies are rating them as outsiders to steal the crown.

As 24 countries prepare to battle it out in Helsinki, Scooch's song Flying The Flag (For You) is a 28-1 outsider, according to Ladbrokes.

Ukrainian singer Verka Seduchka is 5-1 favourite.

"Ukraine have come from nowhere, in much the same way as Lordi did last year," said Ladbrokes spokesman Nick Weinberg. "History could be about to repeat itself."

Four-piece Scooch describe themselves as "this generation's Bucks Fizz".

They will be performing a dance routine dressed as airline cabin crew.

The band had a top 10 hit in 2000 with More Than I Need To Know, but split the same year.

The band reformed especially for Eurovision.

"We decided to do it because we felt it was our job to bring Eurovision back to its former glory. The UK hasn't done too well of late and we're taking it back to pure pop music," said band member Russ Spencer.

Scooch were chosen in a public vote on the BBC One show Making Your Mind Up.
