A south London police officer who wowed judges with his dance moves on Britain’s Got Talent made an off-duty arrest just hours after the show aired, the Standard can reveal.

PC Dan Graham, nicknamed Dancing Dan, won a place in the next round of the hugely popular talent contest after impressing all four judges in Saturday night’s show.

But less than 12 hours later the 33-year-old jumped back into action while celebrating his success with friends in Epsom, Surrey.

After hearing what sounded like a car crash on Sunday, he rushed around the corner to discover a vehicle had collided with a bollard.

The Kingston Police officer checked the driver and quickly realised he might have been under the influence of drink or drugs.

PC Graham detained the driver and called for on-duty officers from Surrey Police to assist. They arrested him for driving while unfit and took him to a nearby custody suite for questioning.

Kingston Police spokesman Sebastian Ellis told the Standard: “It’s another piece of great work by Dan, not just dancing! It shows that our officers are always there for the public whether on duty or not.”

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank Dan for intervening while off duty, his actions demonstrated the core values of policing and we really appreciate him apprehending a suspected offender in our area.

“We would like to wish him the best of luck with Britain’s Got Talent.”

PC Graham first found fame through his dancing when a video of him busting impressive moves while in uniform went viral last May, receiving more than 1.5 million views.

The officer, who is part of Kingston Police’s 999 response team, drew in more views after a follow-up video caught him performing in a dance-off with a pig for charity.

Many admirers urged him to apply for Britain’s Got Talent and ahead of Saturday night’s show he told the Standard: "I auditioned for BGT in the hope that I can show a human side to the police and try to break down some barriers.

"I love dancing and since my viral videos last year I got some great feedback. It showed that there is a lot of support for us out there which I think police don't always realise.

"I can't wait for tonight and I hope everyone enjoys seeing my audition."

His performance turned out to be a hit with judge Simon Cowell, who described it as "smart", while Alesha Dixon said she "loved" the audition.

PC Graham will now be entered into the next round of the competition and could perform in a live semi-final.
