Quordle today: What are the answers for May 20th and what are their meanings?

Quordle is a word game inspired by the word game phenomenon Wordle–except it’s much harder.

The online puzzle was invented by a group of Wordle fans, with the prototype coming from engineer David Mah in “a moment of evil and genius", according to Quordle creator Freddie Meyer. It was inspired by Dordle, which sees players try to guess two words simultaneously, with one keyboard.

A number of Wordle-inspired games have been created since the original took off last year, such as Heardle, Worldle, and Moviedle, just to name a few.

Quordle is perhaps the spin-off that is most like Wordle–and it’s the perfect challenge for those who have mastered the original game.

Quordle’s rules are very similar to Wordle, but there’s a twist. Instead of trying to guess just one five-letter word, players are tasked with guessing four words simultaneously.

Like Wordle, you will have a keyboard to choose letters from, but in Quordle, the one keyboard will apply to all four boards, meaning you need to be tactical with your guesses.

If you get the right letter in the right tile, it will turn green, while if you guess the right letter but in the wrong place, the tile will turn yellow. If you pick a letter that does not appear in any of the four words, it will turn grey.

A quail is “any of roughly 130 species of small short-tailed game birds classified in the families Phasianidae and Odontophoridae (order Galliformes), resembling partridges but generally smaller and less robust,” according to Britannica.

Drier is the comparative of dry, and as a noun, it can mean “something that extracts or absorbs moisture,” “a substance that accelerates drying (as of oils, paints, and printing inks,” or (usually dryer) “a device for drying,” according to Merriam-Webster dictionary.

Given is an adjective that Merriam-Webster dictionary describes as particular or specified, “assumed as actual or hypothetical,” prone or disposed, or “presented as a gift.”

Place is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as a “physical environment,” “ an indefinite region or expanse,” “a particular region, centre of population, or location,” or “a particular part of a surface or body.”
