A Banksy artwork that appeared on a garage in Port Talbot has been sold to an expert for a six-figure sum.

Ian Lewis, who owns the garage, sold the piece to Banksy expert John Brandler, but the work will stay in the Welsh town for the next two to three years.

It is likely to be moved to the town centre so more people can see it.

Mr Lewis, who said the stress of owning the artwork made him unable to sleep, is said to be relieved by the sale.

He was forced to hire security guards and fit protective Perspex to the work, called Seasons Greetings, after 20,000 people visited it.

Actor Michael Sheen, who grew up in Baglan, the adjoining village to Port Talbot, contributed towards security costs to protect the painting.

The piece shows a child with what appears to be snow falling on him, but the other side reveals a fire in a bin emitting ash.

Black dust from the town's steelworks covered houses, cars and pets in the area in July, a possible inspiration for the artwork.

The piece, which Banksy claimed responsibility for on his Instagram account, is his first in Wales.
