A poppy sculpture commemorating the centenary of World War One has been stolen from a roundabout in Berkshire.

The 6ft poppy, costing £550, has gone missing from the roundabout on Sheet Street Road, located between Windsor Great Park and Ascot.

It was one of 24 poppies, built of fibre and glass, installed at a number of roundabouts in the area by Bracknell Forest Council.

The poppy was reported stolen on Tuesday but could have been taken before.

Police said whoever took it must have “gone to great effort” to remove it from the concrete base.

Councillor Dorothy Hayes said when they were installed: “These striking pieces of art will remind residents and those passing through Bracknell Forest of the brave men and women who lost their lives in the Great War.

“But they will also bring to mind the essential work of the British Legion in helping and supporting veterans of more recent wars.”
