Halifax, Lloyds Bank, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland customers across the UK have reported widespread problems with their online and mobile banking.

NatWest, which is part of RBS, was the first to crash just after 7am but has now confirmed it is back up and running.

Lloyds and Halifax also confirmed they have resolved the issue after customers said their bank balances were showing up as N/A online or they were unable to log into their accounts altogether.

Both banks are replying to individual customers on Twitter with the statement: “We’re aware that some of our customers are experiencing problems with their Online Banking and their Mobile Banking app.

“We are looking into this as a matter of urgency.

“Apologies for any inconvenience.”

One Halifax customer asked: “Why isn’t my mobile banking app working? Can’t access my account and it’s the only bank account I have!”

DownDetector, an Independent website which tracks social media posts to monitor outages across the globe, shows hundreds of Halifax and Lloyds customers reportedly being hit by the network troubles.

A Lloyds customer wrote on Twitter: “I can’t login to my Lloyd’s app and it seems an issue this morning for many people on DownDetector. Is the system down or something?”

A spokesperson for Lloyds and Halifax told the Evening Standard: “We're sorry that some of our customers had issues with internet banking this morning and can confirm that services are now back to normal.”

RBS confirmed that both Natwest and RBS online banking and app issues have been resolved.

A spokeman said: “A small number of customers may have experienced problems accessing mobile and online banking for a short period this morning. All services are back up and running as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused.”
