London will bask in temperatures of up to 26C this week as the warm weather continues in the capital.

Forecasters said they expected more of the recent sunny weather in the south-east today, when temperatures are expected to reach around 22C.

There is then a chance of "patchy" rain in the south-east before the weather hots up again at the end of the week.

MeteoGroup forecaster John Griffiths said: "There is quite a big split over the country. In the south east and south coast there will be some patchy rain but some good sunny spells and it will be mainly dry."

But the mercury this week is unlikely to hit the dizzying highs of last week's record-breaking temperatures of 36.7C recorded at Heathrow.

Play at Wimbledon is expected to be largely uninterrupted by rain, with the exception of Tuesday when showers could halt proceedings.

A further two people remain in hospital following the lightning storm at around midday on the Pen Y Fan mountain range in Powys, mid-Wales, the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil said.
