Little Britain star Lucas divorces

12 April 2012

Little Britain star Matt Lucas and his partner Kevin McGee were "divorced" in London less than two years after their "wedding" ceremony.

In an uncontested case, Lucas was granted an order dissolving his civil partnership with the television researcher on the basis that McGee had behaved in such a way that they could no longer be expected to continue living together.

The order was granted at a brief hearing before District Judge Reid at the family court complex in High Holborn.

Lucas's petition was among 30 cases listed for pronouncement of divorce decrees or dissolution of civil partnerships.

Neither Lucas, 34, nor McGhee, 32, was present or represented in court.

The couple met at a nightclub and exchanged vows in December 2006 after three years together.

After the ceremony, they threw a lavish pantomime-themed reception at Banqueting House in London, with Lucas dressed as Aladdin and McGee as Prince Charming. Sir Elton John, Barbara Windsor and singer Courtney Love were among the guests.

The couple shared a £1.5 million home in north-west London. But their relationship broke down and they split 18 months after the ceremony.

Court documents indicated that the basis for the dissolution was McGhee's behaviour, but did not specify the nature of his behaviour, merely stating that it was continuing.

The men are the first celebrity gay couple to dissolve a civil partnership.
