Injured Leicester City fans fill A&E department after night of Premier League celebrations

People have been warned away from attending Leicester's main A&E department after it filled up with football fans who overdid their Premier League title-winning celebrations.

Leicester's Royal Infrimary said twice as many people as normal had arrived at the A&E overnight following yesterday's party at the King Power stadium for Claudio Ranieri's champions.

After the match, the team were presented with the trophy before thousands of fans poured into the city to carry on the celebrations.

According to the hospital trust, many of their patients had suffered minor injuries caused by too much alcohol.

Its Twitter account issued a plea today, saying: "@Leic_hospital is feeling the effect of the @LCFC game yesterday.

"If you don't need to come to A&E please don't."

The University of Leicester Hospitals NHS Trust said in a statement: "Last night and this morning we have seen twice as many patients in our emergency department than we would normally on a Saturday night and Sunday morning.

"We expected it to be incredibly busy this weekend and have the necessary plans in place to safely treat our patients.

"A plea is for those who do not need to come into A&E to call NHS 111 for healthcare advice."
