Lee Westwood launches expletive-laden rant at Twitter trolls who mocked his play in US PGA Championship

Rant: Golfer Lee Westwood slammed the 'haters' in an online rant filled with expletives

Golfer Lee Westwood has launched a furious attack on Twitter trolls criticising his failure to win a major tournament and called for them to be banned from the social networking site.

The 40-year-old faced a barage of abuse online after scoring a disappointing six-over final round in the season’s final major, US PGA Championship.

But rather than just ignore his detractors, the golf star posted more than 30 angry messages after admitting he had drunk “lots” after his dismal performance.

He said his comments were not aimed at all his followers. “Not my decent human beings followers of course. Just the pr***s that should be locked up by the twitter police.”

One user told him: “don’t rise to it mate”, but he replied: “just sick of negative a..holes sat behind a keyboard with a pitiful life mate !thats all!”

Another user said: “You deserve all the stick you get after that last round of golf!”. Westwood replied: “I tried all the way. And you’re a t**t!”

Further tweets included: “Like I give a F*** what the haters say! That’s life ! Some people will always be just a little bit better and work just a little bit harder.”

In another post he wrote: “Come on you cowards! Youve all gone quiet now havnt you! Ahhh just when I’m in the mood the haters all go quiet! They must have the porn on! Ahhh the haters have all gone quiet now ! Obviously didn’t like a bit back at em!,” adding: “Come on you girly boy trolls! I’ve only won just over 2 mill on course this year! Need you to keep me entertained a bit longer than this! Funny , I’ve not chewed a troll up for a good while ! Those p*****s! No stamina! I love slagging people back! Had enough of sitting there taking it. Bring it on!”

One follower told him: “Go to bed buddy you’re making a fool out of yourself!,” to which he replied: “Wish I had a middle finger icon for you!”

When asked if his Twitter account had been hacked, Westwood signed off with: “Not been hacked. Just honest. Bored now. Westy out.”

Westwood has been in contention for all four majors this year but has struggled in the latter stages of the tournaments.

He has finished in the top three eight times in majors without ever winning one.

Westwood’s management said they were looking into the tweets.
