Kate Garraway has shared shocking images of her husbandDerek Draper fighting for his life in hospital a year after contracting Covid-19.

In the trailer for ITV documentary Finding Derek, the Good Morning Britain presenter, inset, tells of her fears for the 53-year-old’s future.

Garraway, also 53, said: “Derek is the sickest person the team of doctors have treated this year. Is he going to be able to come back or will he be alive but no longer the person he was?”

Mr Draper, a former Labour spin doctor, is thought to be the longest surviving Covid patient in the country. The programme will be broadcast this month.

In April Garraway is to release a book about the “raw and emotional story” of Mr Draper’s “long fight” against Covid-19 titled The Power Of Hope.

Publishers have said Garraway will “share the raw and emotional story” of Mr Draper’s “long fight against Covid-19 and the devastating impact it continues to have on him and on their family”.

She will also “write about how she is coping with the uncertainty of their future, how she has found strength in community and how she strives to hold on to hope, even at the darkest of times”.
