Britain’s “heatwave heroes” are sweltering in staggering temperatures as they go about their jobs during the summer months.

Research found workers’ clothes were heating up to temperatures of 80C or more as they kept up their job during the hot weather of the past few weeks.

In one instance, an iron monger’s protective clothing reached up to 84C, while the metal on an armed police officer’s bullet proof vests reached 60C.

Thermal imaging technology also revealed baristas working on equipment which hit 50C, while buildings being scrubbed by window cleaners also heated up to 50C.

The extraordinary thermal images taken on a Cat S61 smartphone showed how Brits had faced extreme temperatures during the summer heatwave.

An amber "heat health watch" warning remains in place for parts of England, with people being warned to try to stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm.

Nurses have warned that some hospital wards have reached more than 30C, leading to patients and relatives passing out or vomiting.

The Society of Acute Medicine has also raised concerns about patients and staff in overheated hospitals.
