David Beckham expects his mother to cry when she watches a new film about his time at Manchester United.

The Class of 92 covers the period from 1992 to 1999 when Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Phil and Gary Neville rose from Manchester United youth players to Champions League winners.

The documentary also looks at the difficult time in Beckham’s life after he was sent off at the 1998 World Cup.

Speaking at the premiere of The Class of 92 at Leicester Square last night, he said: “There will be a few tears in there from my mum I’m sure.”

Beckham attended the event with his wife, Victoria, and their three sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.

Beckham may have flirted with movie stardom in the past, but he says he has no interest in becoming an actor.

He said: “I’m not very good at acting, so maybe it wouldn’t be a good idea to go into that kind of industry.

“But I enjoyed doing this. It’s something that I know, something that is part of our teenage years.”

He explained how much he valued the support of his fellow players when he faced tough periods in his career.

“I think that is part of history,” the 38-year-old said. “It’s the same for all of us six. There were good times, and there were troubled times where we all stuck together.

“But that is part of the movie, part of the history of the six of us. That is what makes this such a great story.”

One Direction star Harry Styles attended last night’s premiere. He described Beckham as

“everyone’s idol”.

When asked whether Beckham could become Sir David in the New Year Honours List, Styles replied: “Why not? I thought he was already.”
