The "devastated" parents of the Army cadet who died after he was stabbed outside a youth club have visited the scene of his murder.
Joseph Lappin, 16, suffered a single stab wound to the left side of his chest which pierced his heart.
The teenager was attacked by a gang of up to 15 youths outside the Shrewsbury House Youth Club in Everton, Liverpool, which Joseph had visited for the first time on Monday night.
Detectives investigating Joseph's death arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder.
At the scene Joseph's mother Toni, 44, and father John, 45, carried flowers to a wall at the side of St Peter's Church Everton, just metres from the entrance to the youth club on Langrove Street.
Mr and Mrs Lappin were accompanied by the Reverend of St Peter's Henry Corbett along with family and friends.
Two notes from Joseph's parents were attached to a bunch of flowers left by the couple.
One of the cards said: "Joseph. The good die young, and we know you were one of the best, sleep tight son. Love forever Mum x."
The other said: "To my beautiful son Joseph. Words cannot express how I feel. Love you always Dad x."
On a bouquet of flowers, which included red and white carnations and white lilies, a hand-written note said: "Joseph we watched you from a beautiful baby, grow into a handsome, caring, mature young man, a credit to his mum and dad and a loving grandson we are so proud of. Will miss you. Forever Nan and Grandad."
