Andy Murray back on court to play fans

8 July 2013

Andy Murray was back on court today but instead of trading blows with the world number one, the new Wimbledon champion rallied with a clergyman, a police community support officer and a three-year-old boy.

After little more than an hour's sleep, the 26-year-old Scot picked up his racket at a local sports centre in south London to fire balls at hundreds of fans.

During the Adidas £hitthewinner event at the Black Prince Community Hub in Kennington, Murray also posed for pictures alongside his trophy with the supporters who managed to return his shots.

First up was the Rev Angus Aagaard, Team Rector of North Lambeth Parish, who took his dog Rocky on to the court with him.

Asked what he thought of Murray's victory, he said: "It's brilliant.

"We had our local fair here yesterday, and we all stopped to watch the match. We all were going mad.

"I just happened to be here and someone asked if I could hit a ball back to Andy Murray, so I said yes."

Three-year-old Thomas Palmer, from Wimbledon, also stepped into the firing line to face his favourite tennis player.

Helped by his mother, 33-year-old Debbie Palmer, the toddler managed to get his racket - a miniature version of his hero's - to the ball.

Mrs Palmer said of her son: "He's absolutely obsessed with tennis.

"He's got more enthusiasm than the rest of us. He's even got the same racket as Andy Murray."
