All four UK nations have recorded their hottest ever Easter Monday on record, the Met Office said.

A scorching 25C was reached in England, with top temperatures in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland reaching 23.6C, 23.5C and 21.4C respectively.

It comes after Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland each enjoyed their warmest Easter Sunday on record, the Met Office said.

Brits were pictured making the most of the heat across the country as sunny conditions hit, with revellers hitting the coastlines.

The bright conditions are not set to last, though, as thousands return to work this week after a long break.

The Met Office said “thundery showers” were warmed from Wednesday onwards, as forecasters predict a wet weekend.

It said: “Scattered thundery showers will move northwards on Wednesday, introducing cooler conditions. It will then stay similar, with further heavy, thundery showers and perhaps gales in the west.”

Forecasters also warned gales and even hail could be likely in parts of the West and South West next weekend.

It added: “Next weekend could be very unsettled, with often heavy rain and the risk of gales, especially in the west and southwest.

“Thunder and hail are likely at times and temperatures will mainly be on the cold side of average.
