It’s been 50 years since ABBA’s iconic album, Waterloo. The world has celebrated the Swedish group in many different ways since then, with the most prominent one being a virtual concert residency at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park known as Abba Voyage.

One billion computer hours, 160 cameras, 500 moving lights, and a 65 million-pixel screen were used to make Abba Voyage.

The virtual concerts, which take place seven times a week and include matinees, opened on May 27, 2022 to astonishing reviews.

The Guardian labelled the whole thing “Jaw-dropping” while David Smyth wrote for the Evening Standard: “I literally could not believe my eyes.”

But it may be that the fun is coming to an end, currently, you are only allowed to buy tickets up to November 25, 2024.

It has also been announced that the captivating show is scheduled to arrive in Las Vegas in a brand-new, specially constructed theatre, according to a local story published this week in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Although the site is not yet confirmed and the event would start as a "limited engagement, extending if it builds momentum", sources told the journal that US-based Resorts World is reportedly the front-runner to win the contract.

Is Abba Voyage leaving London?

As Abba once sang, “Darling, we were always meant to stay together”, it appears that the virtual concert is confirmed to remain in London.

A spokesperson told news website Metro, that the company are “in conversations about the concert being in different locations at some point in the future as well as in London, but currently the only place in the world where you can see Abba Voyage is at the Abba Arena, London”.

After experiencing enormous success in London over the past few years, there have been talks with Resorts World to bring the Abbatars to Vegas.

The group, which included 77-year-old Benny Andersson, 74-year-old Agnetha Faltskog, 78-year-old Bjorn Ulvaeus, and 78-year-old Anni-Frid Lyngstad, was in a competitive bidding war with MGM Resorts, Caesars Palace, and Resorts World to host the digital avatar presentation on Las Vegas Strip back in 2021. And it looks like the bidding war has been won by Resorts World.

A source told the Daily Star: “Abba has been secretly in talks for a while about getting a deal in Vegas. The music of Abba is well liked in the US and the unique selling point of avatars makes it more than an Abba show as the spectacular is something that could well wow audiences.”
