Victoria line Tube passengers are bracing for chaos ahead of a complete closure of part of the line set to last a full three weeks.

No services at all will run between Seven Sisters and Walthamstow Central from tomorrow until August 30 and frequency on the rest of the line - which extends south to Brixton - will be reduced, Transport for London said.

The work forms part of an improvement plan set to make the line have the UK's most regular railway service, with trains running every 100 seconds.

But the summer holiday closure threatens to cause travel misery for thousands of commuters.

David Waboso, capital programmes director at London Underground, said: “Our engineers will be working around the clock to keep the closure period as short as possible.”

The shut-down coincides with further disruption in the north east London area.

Before 9.30am on weekdays during the same period London Overground services will not stop at Clapton and St James Street station will be exit only.
