Oyster card 'credit' plan as cash fares face axe

Cash payments for fares on London buses could be scrapped entirely with all passengers forced to use Oyster or bank cards.

Fewer than 1% of London bus journeys currently involve passengers paying cash and Transport for London (TfL) is now consulting on scrapping cash payments in 2014.

TfL is also looking at measures to introduce a new Oyster card feature that will allow passengers to make one more bus journey if there are insufficient funds on their Oyster card - just to get them home.

Passengers would then pay for this extra journey when they top up their card.
