Ten thousand millennial railcards entitling travellers between the ages of 26 and 30 to discounted tickets will go on sale this week.

Phase two of National Rail's trial of the discount pass will start on Tuesday.

It follows a trial across the Greater Anglia network, which saw 10,000 cards sell out within hours.

The number of cards available during the next phases of the trial will also be limited to just 10,000.

The new railcard was announced last year during the budget by Chancellor Phillip Hammond.

What discount does the card provide?

The new card will offer a third off most full-price fares in England, Wales and Scotland, operating on a similar basis to the Young Persons Railcard (for 16-25 year olds) which has been available since 1974.

The discount is limited during the morning commute as a minimum fare of £12 between 4.30am and 10am, Monday to Friday.

The card costs £30 for a year and will only be available digitally, intended to be used on smartphones.

Discounts will not be given on season tickets.

Who can apply?

The card is available to travellers between the ages of 26 and 30.

You are able to apply up until your 31st birthday, so if you are turning 31 this Wednesday, you can still apply for the railcard tomorrow.

How many cards are available?

Only 10,000 cards will be available to the five million Brits that are eligible for the card during this phase of the trial.

This means there’s just one card for every 500 people in that age bracket.

Where can I apply?

The card can be bought on the 26-30 railcard website, and holders will need to download an app before in order to use the card.

Anyone applying for the railcard will need to pay by card, have a proof of age through a driving licence or passport, and have a digital, passport-style photo.
