All flights in and out of London City Airport were cancelled as disposal experts worked to secure a WWII bomb found in the Thames nearby.

The device was found on Sunday and a cordon put up late on Sunday evening after discussions between the Royal Navy and Metropolitan Police.

Londoners faced major travel disruption on Monday as the airport was shut and road closures remain in place due to a 241-metre (700ft) exclusion zone in the surrounding area.

As Transport for London said some Docklands Light Railway services will not run due to the exclusion zone, here’s everything you need to know before you travel.

Check before you leave to fly

London City Airport has urged passengers due to fly on Monday not to travel to the airport. The airport is likely to remain closed all day.

It also advised passengers to contact their airline for further information on the status of their flight.

A list of useful telephone numbers for companies and services at the airport can be found here, including airlines.

Rescheduled flights

Some airlines have posted information about flight changes on social media. London City is posting updates via its Twitter feed, @LondonCityAir.

CityJet said flights to and from London City Airport have been rescheduled from Southend Airport. Further information can be found on the airline’s website.

Alitalia said flights AZ212/AZ211/AZ216/AZ215 will depart from London Stansted.

Be aware of road closures

An exclusion zone is in place around the area and some nearby residents have been evacuated.

Due to a number of road closures, motorists planning to travel through this part of Newham borough should seek alternative routes.

Alternative DLR rail routes

DLR services are suspended between Pontoon Dock and Woolwich Arsenal.

Tickets will be accepted on London Underground and Southeastern services.

Replacement buses in operation

Bus replacement services are running between North Greenwich and Woolwich Arsenal and between Canning Town and King George V stations.

TfL has asked passengers to allow extra time to complete their journeys.
