Central line delays: Person dies after being hit by train at Leyton station

A person has died after they were struck by a train at a Tube station in east London.

Emergency services including police and ambulance crews were called to Leyton station shortly before 2pm but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

He said: "We have been called to Leyton Underground station at 1.40pm following a report of a person struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP and Metropolitan Police are in attendance with colleagues from London Ambulance Service, and a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be compiled for the coroner.”

Transport for London said Leyton station has reopened but that "severe delays" affected the Central line.

Witnesses said one ambulance, three fire engines, seven police cars and two police vans were stationed outside the underground station.

Leyton High Road was also closed in both directions sparking delays for drivers.
