'Absolute game changer', Londoners hail Night Tube debut on Piccadilly line after weeks of chaos

Londoners hailed the arrival of Night Tube on the crisis-hit Piccadilly line as it made its debut after weeks of daytime delays.

The Tube line became the fifth to launch the 24-hour service on Friday despite weeks of travel mayhem sparked by emergency repair work to damaged trains.

Transport chiefs were urged to delay the introduction amid safety concerns but stressed enough working trains were operating to press ahead.

And Londoners appeared to give their approval following the debut.

Arts Educational Schools London student Ashlee Irish said: “So, the Piccadilly Line night tube at 2:30am was 1000 X better than the normal service from the Piccadilly line over the last 3 weeks.”

John Sills posted: “So I'm on the @piccadillyline night tube, first night. Excellent. Except some bloke has just thrown up!”

Cecilie Ingwersen tweeted: “Hello #nighttube you gorgeous thing!”

While another woman added: “Night tube on the @piccadillyline - absolute game changer.”

However, not everyone was impressed as some complained of delays and a lack of communication.

Monika Jurkiewicz tweeted: “Night tube on Piccadilly line is a joke! Stuck for 40mins in the tunnel with no information! If you can't get it right, don't do it!

While Calvin McDonald wrote: “First night tube on the Piccadilly Line. 15 minute wait at Holborn. Would have been quicker getting the bus!”

A Transport for London spokesman said no major disruption affected the launch but a signal fault at King’s Cross briefly halted trains for around 10 minutes shortly before 4am.

As of Saturday, 70 out of 79 Piccadilly line trains are in full working order with delays downgraded to minor from severe at the end of last month.
