Shoppers including celebrity chef Marco Pierre White’s son braved the cold on London’s Regent Street to be the first to get their hands on the new iPhone X.

Fans including model and former Big Brother contestant Marco Pierre White Jr, who was third in line, were among those to spend two nights camping out to get hold of the long-awaited £999 phone.

Hordes of shoppers gathered outside the capital’s flagship Apple store before it opened at 8am on Friday.

Thousands of Apple fans gathered at stores around the world including Australia, Asia and Europe for the global launch.

Pierre White, 22, the son of celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, joined the queue on Wednesday evening to get a phone for his girlfriend Francesca Suter.

His marathon wait came despite him already getting his hands on the new release a day before the launch. He posted a video on his Instagram yesterday of him taking the phone out of its box.

He came and went during his two day stint in the queue after asking people to save his space.

Student Adam Rabhi was the first in line to get the highly anticipated gadget after waiting outside the flagship store since 4pm Tuesday.

The 23-year-old business student from Chelsea previously had an “awful experience” queuing for the iPhone 6 in 2014 and vowed to be the first to get the 10th anniversary edition.

Mr Rabhi said: “My experience last time was so awful, I was number 700 and I was annoyed I got it hours after so many other people. I wasn’t going to let that happen again.”

He was so determined to be the first in line he had been checking since the weekend to see if anyone else had started queuing.

He said: “It’s been like living on the streets.

“I had my coat, sleeping bag, yoga mat my mum gave me, and my tent so it was okay, I just tried not to eat and drink much so I didn’t have to leave.

“It’s all been worth it to be the first person to get the phone though and I can’t wait to use the face identification and wireless charging features.”

Charity worker Salahuddim Patel, 40, who had been queuing since Thursday afternoon, said: “Everyone is exhausted but excited; the X is a big jump from the 7 and 8 because the features are completely different.”

1,500 people were due to pick up the phone this morning after pre-registering for it while those who had queued for days were looking to get them on general sale.

Features of the iPhone X include face and voice recognition, a 5.8-inch super retina screen, wireless charging, a new way to navigate through swiping instead of a home button and is water and dust resistant.
