Third in line to pick up the smartphone was model and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Marco Pierre White Jr. The son of the celebrity chef joined the queue on Wednesday – even though he received his own iPhone X a day early, posting an unboxing video on his Instagram.

The celebrity claimed he was queuing to pick up an extra handset for his girlfriend Francesca Suter.

Piers Morgan was another celeb to pick up the iPhone, posting "BOOM!" on Twitter.

First in the Regent Street queue was 23 year-old business student Adam Rabhi from Chelsea, who started the line at 4pm on Tuesday.

Rabhi said his ‘awful’ experience trying to get the iPhone 6 in 2014 inspired him to be the first UK owner for the iPhone X.

“My experience last time was so awful, I was number 700 and I was annoyed I got it hours after so many other people,” he said. “I wasn’t going to let that happen again.”

“I had my coat, sleeping bag, yoga mat my mum gave me, and my tent so it was okay, I just tried not to eat and drink much so I didn’t have to leave.

“It’s all been worth it to be the first person to get the phone though and I can’t wait to use the face identification and wireless charging features.”

There were also frenzied scenes in Birmingham with a vast queue, and anti-terror barriers set up to protect the crowds.

Extended queues were seen around the world for the iPhone X launch. Customers were pictured sleeping on the floor outside the Apple store in the Dubai Mall, with a snaking line of people waiting for the device.

The iPhone X marks the tenth anniversary of Apple’s revolutionary smartphone, with a major redesign of several staple features.

The screen has been extended to fill the entire front face of the phone, with Apple removing the home button in the process.

Instead of the fingerprint scanner, formerly housed in the home button, iPhone X features new Face ID technology for security. The front-facing camera makes a 3D map of the owner’s face, meaning they can unlock the handset just by looking at it.

Like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, released just a matter of weeks ago, the new mobile also supports wireless Qi charging.
