Apple has released an iOS update that addresses the recent widespread Spectre security flaw.

The Californian tech company has brought out a major software update aimed at stopping the issue.

iOS 11.2.2 is available now, and works on iPhone 5S and up, and iPads starting from 2013’s iPad Air. It’s highly recommended that all compatible users download the update.

A description of the software patch confirms: “iOS 11.2.2 includes security improvements to Safari and WebKit to mitigate the effects of Spectre”.

The update comes after Apple admitted last week that all iPhones, iPads and Macbooks had the potential to be affected by the Meltdown and Spectre bugs.

In a statement, the company said: “All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time.

“Since exploiting many of these issues requires a malicious app to be loaded on your Mac or iOS device, we recommend downloading software only from trusted sources such as the App Store.”

The bugs were discovered recently as a flaw in microchips manufactured by Intel and ARM, which supply almost the entire global computer market.
