4G trial rings changes for the mobile phone

Londoners today got a glimpse of the future of mobile phones when a 4G network was turned on as part of a trial.

Covering an area from Hyde Park to The O2 in Greenwich, it will give Canary Wharf, Soho, Westminster, the South Bank and King's Cross internet access that is 10 times faster than 3G networks. About 1,000 users will take part in the trial. Ronan Dunne, chief executive officer of Telefónica UK (O2), said it would lay the foundations for its commercial use. The auction for a national 4G network is expected to take place next year.
