Theresa May 'will not attend Fidel Castro's funeral'

Theresa May will not attend the funeral of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, Government sources revealed today.

Boris Johnson is also deciding to give the funeral a miss, with a junior Foreign Office minister likely to represent the UK.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn looks likely to go although his office said he has not yet received an invitation.

The funeral has divided the world, with many left-wing leaders in South America set to attend but with senior Republicans demanding that Barack Obama stay at home.

Mrs May has not commented on Castro’s death that was announced on Saturday morning.

But Mr Corbyn hailed the revolutionary as “a massive figure in the history of the whole planet”.
