Britain goes to the polls in two days time after a short but bruising campaign triggered by Theresa May’s announcement of a snap election.

The Prime Minister hopes the nation will be sold on her promise of strong and stable leadership, while Jeremy Corbyn has pitched to younger voters with a view to gaining a shock majority by boosting turnout.

Smaller parties want your support to amplify their voices in Parliament as it scrutinises the biggest political move for a generation: Brexit.

All in all it’s enough to be thinking about. So here are some answers to last-minute questions you may about practical matters come June 8.

Where is my polling station?

After registering to vote, you should have received a polling card addressed to you through the door.

On the card will be a small map which will direct you to the polling station you need to visit.

Once there, signs will make it obvious it is a “polling station”. Inside you will be asked for your name and address before you are given a ballot paper.

What if I have lost my polling card?

Don’t worry. Visit www.yourvotematters.co.uk and enter your postcode to find out where you are supposed to vote. You cannot turn up just anywhere and expect to be able to cast your ballot.

Can I still vote if I’ve lost my card?

Yes. If you registered then you will be on the electoral register even if you don’t have a card.

No ID is needed at polling stations in England, Scotland and Wales. All you have to do is show up and a clerk will cross-reference your name with the electoral register.

Can I vote online?

No. Despite repeated calls for online voting to be introduced in the UK it is still not possible to do so, mainly over cyber security fears.

When can I vote?

Polls open at 7am and won’t close until 10pm.

As long as you’re inside the polling station by 10pm, you should still be able to cast your ballot.

Can I get a lift to the polling station?

Disabled voters may be eligible for assistance. Contact the elections office at your local council for more information.
