Jeremy Clarkson tonight blasted Theresa May’s first cabinet appointment on the basis she and new Chancellor Philip Hammond shared names with his former Top Gear colleagues.

The presenter said: “Oh for f***’s sake. May and Hammond? Really? We’ll end up thick and lost.”

Clarkson, who was jokingly referring to Richard Hammond and James May, posted the comment on Twitter as the UK’s new Prime Minister unveiled her new cabinet.

George Osborne quit and former Foreign Secretary Mr Hammond was named his replacement in the first round of the reshuffle.

Brexiteer and former London Mayor Boris Johnson was later given the position of Foreign Secretary.

Michael Fallon and Amber Rudd were among others seen arriving at Number 10 – where they are expected to be offered leading jobs in Mrs May’s new administration.

The new premier was officially appointed by the Queen after David Cameron handed in his resignation earlier today.

Clarkson, May and Hammond left Top Gear last year after the lead presenter punched a produced in a row over dinner following a day of filming.

They have since signed up with Amazon Prime for a new show called The Grand Tour.
