Labour received a double boost this week as two separate polls showed Jeremy Corbyn's party closing the gap on the Conservatives.

While Theresa May's party still enjoys a comfortable lead, Labour has made gains since its manifesto was unveiled.

An Ipsos MORI survey for the Evening Standard found Labour had put on eight points, trimming the Tory lead to a hefty 15 points, while Mr Corbyn's personal leadership ratings had also slightly improved.

But the telephone poll - the first since the launch of Labour's manifesto - found that Theresa May remains on course for a major victory in the General Election on June 8. The Conservatives were unchanged on 49 per cent as Labour climbed from a rock-bottom 26 to 34 per cent.

The Lib Dems are third on seven per cent, down from 14. But the biggest loser is Paul Nuttall’s crisis-stricken Ukip, down from four per cent to two per cent.

In a separate poll by YouGov, Mr Corbyn's party was up to points on 32 per cent, with the Tories down one on 45.

Here is the latest graph showing the poll of polls from Britain Elects – providing a clear picture of how the parties stand in the run-up to the ballot on June 8.

Meanwhile, bookmakers are clearly backing the Tories to see off the challenge by Mr Corbyn’s Labour and the Liberal Democrats, who are campaigning for a “soft Brexit”.

Betfair's latest odds, which are determined by customer betting patterns, show the Conservatives heavily backed to win the most seats, and a majority.

Latest election odds from Betfair Exchange:

Overall Majority - £2.6m matched

Conservative Majority 1.07 (1/14 or 93% chance)

No Overall Majority 19.0 (18/1 or 5% chance)

Labour Majority 44.0 (43/1)

Any Other Majority 1000.0 (999/1)

Most Seats - £3.9m matched

Conservative 1.03 (1/33 or 97% chance)

Labour 28.0 (27/1 or 3% chance)

UKIP 710.0 (709/1)

Lib Dems 760.0 (759/1)

Any Other 1000.0 (999/1)

Betfair Spokesperson Katie Baylis said: “While the Tories odds have remained fairly steady over the weekend, we’ve seen ‘no majority’ take the most bets in the Overall Majority market with 40% of the bets over the weekend.

“In the Most Seats market we saw Labour attract the most bets – almost 50% compared to just 25% on the Tories. But these are small bets, with the big money being staked on the Tories as you would expect.”
