Labour's Keir Starmer said the British public have rejected Theresa May's "extreme form of Brexit" with today's General Election result.

The Prime Minister set out to secure an increased majority but may end up losing control of Parliament after a disappointing result at the polls.

Delivering his victory speech, Sir Keir called for the terms of Brexit to be "reset" in light of the election result.

"The Prime Minister called this election because she wanted to force through an extreme version of Brexit", he said.

"She wanted to do it without any scrutiny or challenge.

"The people of Britain have rejected her approach.

"It's clear already she had failed in that endeavour, which is to do with the energy, commitment, and positivity of the campaign Labour has run.

"It's early days but there is a glimmer of hope."

Sir Keir was today re-elected as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras, almost doubling his majority to more than 30,000.

He is Labour's shadow Brexit secretary and would be in line to take control of negotiations for leaving the EU if Labour can seize power.
