The supercars littering Knightsbridge of late attract both magpie tourists and parking inspectors. The Londoner, however, has been wondering where the gold Range Rovers and Lamborghinis go when their owners have finished shopping and showing off: surely a mere multi-storey wouldn’t do?

Spear’s magazine has unlocked the mystery. “There are several secret garages,” writes an insider, “each of which contains dozens of priceless vehicles.” The entrance to the one he visits is an anonymous metal shutter, which opens onto a car elevator.

“The luxury of the cars contrasts bizarrely with the rundown basement. It’s like seeing a National Gallery show of Impressionists in Asda.”
