Is Sam Mendes levelling the playing field in a Hollywood marriage?
Following Javier Bardem’s performance as a sinister villain in Bond film Skyfall, rumours are circulating that his wife Penélope Cruz will be in the next movie. The pair have shared the screen several times since meeting on the set of Jamón Jamón in 1992 but this is the first time they will have popped up at different points in the same franchise.
Cruz will be in good company, with 12 Years a Slave award-winner Chiwetel Ejiofor reported also to be in talks. The Londoner is hoping that Ejiofor will play the victim in need of regular rescue, with Cruz as the invulnerable nemesis. That would certainly shake and stir the Bond legacy.
