Dominic Shelmerdine, who corresponds with well-known personalities to discover their childhood aspirations, recalls the responses from the Miliband brothers.

The first came from David, who has just stood down as an MP, having lost out on the Labour leadership to little Ed. “In January he sent me a letter stating ‘My original ambition was to be a bus conductor’, says Shelmerdine. In March, his brother Ed also got around to replying. “When I was young, I really wanted to be a bus conductor.”
