No chocks away for Stephen Fry film

25 March 2014

Will Stephen Fry’s Dam Busters remake ever reach cinemas? The film, based on 1943’s Operation Chastise, was announced several years ago but director Peter Jackson delayed production to make The Hobbit trilogy, in which Fry appears.

Now that the never-ending Tolkien saga is finally in post-production stages, Jackson was expected to return to the Busters but he has, instead, signed up for the sequel to the 2011 Tintin movie. Once again Fry must just sit back and wait.

“Stephen’s work on the screenplay is now done — he finished it over four years ago,” Fry’s PA tells me. “From recent correspondence with Peter’s office I know that the film is nowhere near pre-production.” Perhaps it will be finished in time for the 80th anniversary of the mission. In 2023.
