Here one minute, gone the next: a BBC mouse called Entwistle

22 April 2013

The 5,000 BBC news staff who moved to New Broadcasting House from Television Centre have a new mascot. A tiny mouse has been seen darting between the desks on the newsroom floor — the busy area viewers see when that motion sickness-inducing camera swoops through the air ahead of news bulletins.

The rodent has been nicknamed Entwistle after the former director-general, because — staff say — he’s there one minute and gone the next.

Newsroom mice were a regular feature of life at White City, thriving on crumbs from desk diners, but until last week no rodents had been spotted in the glassy £1 billion extension to Broadcasting House.

Building maintenance has been informed but staff confidently expect the mouse to outlast the real George Entwistle’s 54-day reign, which ended in a £450,000 pay-off.
