Give a big clap for Bryony Kimmings’s STI show

Coming soon: Bryony Kimmings's Sex Idiot is at the Southbank Centre next week
6 August 2014

We await with bated breath the reprisal of Bryony Kimmings’s hilarious one-woman show Sex Idiot at the Southbank Centre next week. It’s the sorry tale of a 30-year-old woman diagnosed with chlamydia and her search to find out how she came to acquire it.

Kimmings wrote the show in 2010, but has revamped it on hearing the news that C4 is making a sitcom called Scrotal Recall, which follows the same plot bar one crucial detail — the main character is a man.

“It’s annoying because to make a story about STIs suitable for TV it has to come from a male perspective,” she says. For Sex Idiot, which runs from August 12-16, expect some intimate audience participation: “There’s a bit with a pair of scissors, people’s pubic hair and a moustache,” she says. “But don’t worry, everyone stays safely in their seats.” Phew.
