Charles Moore and Jonathan Aitken go head to head on rival biographies

It's the tortoise v the hare. While the first volume of Charles Moore’s 2,500-page biography of Mrs Thatcher is due out on April 23, former Cabinet minister Jonathan Aitken is going for a comparative sprint, with a 500-page portrait to be finished by May 31 and published in October.

“My experience, having written a biography of Richard Nixon in competition with heavyweight academics, is that it’s sometimes the shorter one which gets better results,” says Aitken.
