Bruce Oldfield finds he's gone up in the world

7 February 2013

Bruce Oldfield was back at Morton’s last night for the first time in three decades. The doyen of British fashion designers was the inaugural star speaker for the club’s Inner Circle supper series. “I had my 30th birthday party here,” Oldfield recalled. “We took over the ground and first floors. Now I am on the second floor so I must be going up in the world.”

Back in 1980 around 40 guests attended Oldfield’s 30th celebrations, including Jerry Hall, whom Oldfield dressed. “It was the Eighties crowd. The restaurant then had a real classic 1930s feel with an art frieze.” A piece of Oldfield’s own art helped raise £800 for Barnardo’s. Oldfield is a vice-president of the charity and, of course, a Barnardo’s Boy himself.
