World reacts to 'sick and depraved' London terror attack

Newspapers across the world have reacted to the carnage of the “sick and depraved” terror attack that struck the heart of the capital.

At least four people were killed including an unarmed police officer who was stabbed to death by a knifeman during a rampage in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon.

The tragedy, which saw a killer plough a 4x4 into a crowd of pedestrians as they walked along Westminster Bridge, made newspaper front pages across the globe.

The desperate medical effort to treat PC Keith Palmer, fatally stabbed as he tried to halt a terrorist's attack on Parliament, was illustrated across the front pages of three titles.

The Times, The Guardian and the i showed paramedics and Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood fighting to save the officer on the cobbled path in the grounds of the Palace of Westminster.

Yards away from the injured officer, a man believed to be his killer was being treated for gunshot wounds.

A photo showing the suspect being moved on a stretcher, two blades visible at his side, featured on the front of the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Mirror and the Daily Star.

A tone of resistance was echoed by the Daily Telegraph, whose headline quoted Theresa May, saying: "We will never allow evil to drive us apart".

An earlier shot of an armed police officer pointing towards the grounded suspect was used on the front pages of the Metro, Daily Express and City AM.

“Terrorism obliges to close the Parliament building of the world”, was splashed across Spanish daily El Pais on Thursday morning.

And the words “Terrorist attack on London kills four and injures 40” made the front of Brazilian daily Folha de S.Paulo.

In the wake of the attack, cities around the world showed solidarity with the capital.

The Eiffel Tower’s lights were turned off at midnight as a sign of respect for the victims.

And Tel Aviv City Hall was lit up in the colours of the Union flag to pay homage to those killed and injured.

The message 'We condemn London Attack' was part of a sand sculpture created by Sudarshan Pattnaik on the Puri beach of Orrisa, India.

The Prime Minister spoke outside 10 Downing Street following the shocking attack.

Speaking after chairing a meeting Government's Cobra committee, she praised the “exceptional bravery” of emergency services who "ran towards" danger as they protected others.

She said that the location of the "sick and depraved" attack was "no accident."

She added that any attempt to defeat the values Parliament stands for are "doomed to failure", adding that the "forces of evil" would never be allowed to "drive us apart".
