A taxi driver is seriously injured in hospital today after crashing into cyclist and pedestrian outside the Old Bailey.

The black cab driver hit two people in Newgate Street at about 7.15pm yesterday evening after being "taken ill at the wheel", police said.

All three victims were taken to hospital but the cyclist and pedestrian's injuries were not deemed "life-threatening".

One cab driver wrote on Twitter: "Bad accident tonight on junction of Old Bailey and Holborn Viaduct involving one of our own and pedestrian looked bad".

The road was closed while officers investigated but has since been re-opened.

City Police have launched an investigation. No arrests have been made.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics treated a man aged in his 30s for arm and hip injuries and a woman in her 20s for a head injury. A man in his 40s also received treatment.

The patients were taken "as a priority" to University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital, he added.
