Paddington Place: 'Skinny Shard' proposals submitted to Westminster council

Proposals: The 254-metre tower has been dubbed the skinny Shard

A £1 billion vision to transform the area around Paddington Station — including building the tallest skyscraper in west London — has been submitted to Westminster council for approval.

The plans for the 254-metre tower, heavily criticised last week in a report from Historic England, have been revised to make it taller.

It will include an open-air “sky garden” and restaurant.

The tower has been dubbed the Paddington Pole and the Skinny Shard, but the project is officially known as Paddington Place.

The Singaporean-backed scheme, from Shard developer Sellar Property and its architect Renzo Piano, includes 330 homes.

The area around Paddington station would also be overhauled

The ramp at the entrance to the station would be replaced with a piazza, below, and the main Tube ticket hall would be four times larger with a vaulted glass ceiling.
