Police seek to identify body of man found in river in Orpington

Police are working to identify a man who was found deceased in a river in south London on Monday.

Officers were called after the man’s body was spotted in the River Cray near the Nugent Shopping Park in Orpington shortly before 11.30am.

The man’s body was recovered from the river and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the Met Police said enquiries are ongoing to confirm the man’s identity and to inform his family.

A spokesperson said: “The death is being dealt with as unexpected and is under investigation.”

No arrests have been made at this stage.

The River Cray is a tributary of the River Darent, which in turn is a tributary of the Thames.
